2021.12.04 19:26 FMR1970 My COVID story - Tailgate super spreader
Posting because I think after initial positive test many people are looking for detailed stories, which are not all the easy to find online. I'm including a lot of details, but if you or your family are positive...you probably want them.
I am a 51 year old male. Good health, no prior health conditions. Four days a week of fitness regiment, typical diet, non-smoker, consume alcohol socially. Height and weight in line.
mRNA Vaccinated in early February with second Moderna shot on March 5th 2021. Have no prior infection, have had prior close exposure (before vaccination) without contracting virus.
Hosted a football tailgate with my motorhome on Saturday November 27th . Day was fairly chilly with a little rain. Two different football games were on, one outside and one inside. About 8-10 people were hanging out in the RV. I spent most of the day outside, but was in and out of the RV.
On November 28th my 12 year old son who has Down Syndrome, who spent almost the whole tailgate in the RV, presented with a low grade fever, runny nose and dry cough in the evening. He did not go to school on the 29th.
At 2:00 pm on the Monday the 29th my son had an appointment with the pediatrician. He was still experiencing fever, runny nose and cough. The doctor tested him for COVID and the test was positive. Beyond OTC fever reducer, no treatment was prescribed, but the doctor said she would check on his eligibility for mono-clonal antibodies due to his immune compromised status having Down Syndrome.
I went to Walgreens on the way home from the office and picked up a supply of Binax home test kits. My wife also ordered a couple kits from Amazon because the Walgreens she went to was out of supply. When I got home my wife and I both tested on the Binax, and were both negative. I had zero symptoms at this time.
On Tuesday the 30th late in the day started to have a slight runny nose. More like an allergy than a cold. No fever or any other symptoms. That night I tested again when I got home and the test was negative. At this point my wife and son had left the home to go to our lake house about an hour away to isolate, my wife who is not vaccinated also tested negative that night.
My 27 year old daughter meanwhile, had JNJ shot in April and lives about 2 hours away and was at the RV tailgate also took a test. She spent more time in the RV and sat next to my 12 year old for about half a football game inside. The test was slightly positive, but not clearly so. She had no symptoms but the bottom line (positive line) on the test was extremely faint.
Wednesday the 1st the runny nose had progressed a little but still no fever or fatigue. I worked out that morning for an hour and the work out was decent. When I got home from the day my daughter texted me a picture of another test, it was clearly positive. I tested again and my test was clearly positive. My wife, still at the lake house tested and was negative. My two college aged children who are also unvaccinated are required by their schools to get weekly tests. By this time they had both gotten their weekly test and both were negative. Both also attended the RV tailgate.
Wednesday night was rough. I had a slight fever by bed time and my sleep number bed which records my breath rate and heart rate reported a breath rate of 20 per minute (my typical is 15), and a heart rate of 76, my average is 59....I was clearly not well. My nose was extremely stuffy and I went to bed at 8:45 with some body aches. I did take Advil for the fever, and it was quickly reduced.
Thursday morning was even tougher, my nose was completely clogged, fever was higher, around 101 and I was fatigued and achy. It was time to start hitting back. My sister in law referred me to Garcia Medical Group in Florida and I was able to get a telemedicine visit in the late morning by paying $55 by PayPal. I also contacted a friend who operates a chiropractic and holistic healing practice, drnancy.health, Dr. Nancy had an early covid vitamin and supplement protocol. She prepped a kit and a friend picked it up for me. The protocol is attached.
My 12 year old meantime was approved for monoclonal antibodies (attached) due to his Down Syndrome. He received the injections in late morning Thursday. By this time however, he had recovered almost completely already. Nose dried up, only slight cough, no fever since Tuesday. Pulse ox was regularly above 95. We took the antibodies to be safe, and side effects appeared nominal from all research we did.
My telemedicine visit was quick but thorough, conducted over Zoom. The FNP asked about testing, symptoms, general health. She prescribed 40 mg prednisone for lung function, to keep them clear, a five day Azithromycin regiment (Z-Pack) to dry up any bacterial infections in my clogged sinuses and 18 mg Ivermectin as a prophylactic to reduce viral load. All regiments were five days. I did substantial online research on the ivermectin and most information discouraging its use online had to do with people taking animal intended products. When it came to properly dosed regiments the main drawback seemed to be that no clinical trials showed efficacy and it might cause loose bowels, I thought it was worth the risk, and money, as many anecdotal stories online were positive. The FNP told me to not sweat through the fever and to take Tylenol to keep it down. I discovered Advil and Tylenol both quickly reduced my fever (within 40 minutes).
I had Garcia Medical send the scrips to my local Walgreens. By this time in the day (early afternoon) I was feeling quite a bit better. I did some work calls, cleaned up my emails and attended a board meeting by Zoom. My supplement kit arrived around 4:30 pm and Walgreens filled the prednisone and Z-Pack within two hours. Walgreens did not fill the ivermectin, and I did not ask why (I was warned they may not) so I called Garcia Medical back and had them direct the scrip to Custom Dosing Pharmacy in my town. I had confirmed they would fill the scrip. Custom Dosing did not take insurance and the ivermectin was $180 which had to be paid ahead of filling. I went to Walgreens drive through to pick up the two scrips filled, they cost $52 (I forgot the insurance card) and picked up the ivermectin across town. I started my whole supplement and medicine regiment when I got home on Thursday night.
Side note, I had been voraciously hungry since Tuesday night. I usually eat pretty healthy, but I was craving high calorie "junk" food for days. When I was out I picked up my favorite chicken chorizo burrito, which I usually split into two meals but I mowed through that thing in minutes as the ivermectin needed to be taken with a meal. I also used my Navage nasal cleaning device to clear out my sinuses a bit, and it worked well.
I went to bed around regular time on Thursday. My son was fully recovered, my wife never showed symptoms and stopped testing to preserve our tests and my positive daughter seemed to be about a day ahead of me on symptoms. The most disturbing symptoms to her were brutal night sweats starting on Wednesday night. She had drenched her bed like she had peed the bed. Her husband also tested positive Thursday afternoon at home, but later took a testing center test and was negative. He had no symptoms.
Thursday night the night sweats came to me. I literally drenched a set of pajamas and got up at 1:30 am to change my full clothes and actually put a towel down to sleep on because the bed was drenched. I could feel the water beading down my body like I had just gotten out of a shower. Totally nasty. I checked my temp at 1:30 as well....it was low at 98. I took two Advil and slept until about 4:30 when I got up and changed shirts again. I woke up Friday around 7:15....I usually get up at 6:40.
But I felt decent. Nose was mostly dried up. Slight post nasal drip cough. Had a fever of 99.5 around 10:00 am which quickly cleared up with Tylenol. I worked through the day, did a couple of customer calls and met on the phone with my team. Kept up with emails and talked to a lot of friends as word of my COVID had gotten around by now. I usually have an annoyingly high level of energy, but I was still a little sedate all day. Very bored. No fever returned, nose was clear with a little blowing. Same little post nasal drip cough through out the day....nothing in the lungs.
My wife wanted me to come up to the lake to join her and my son, who was completely recovered by now. She has not shown any symptoms and never tested again. On Friday afternoon my sister in law and niece also tested positive with no material symptoms (both were at the tailgate) and my brother had been having symptoms for three days but continued to test negative. My daughter is 80% recovered as well.
On Friday night my wife received a "whistle blower" call from someone who did not attend the tailgate, but knew most of the people who had. The caller said one of the college kids that attended had been sick on Thanksgiving with nasal symptoms and low fever (2 days earlier), but because he had already had COVID at school in 2020 and because his mother is an anti-Covid conspiracy type he attended anyway. I know the young man (I am fond of the kid) spent a lot of time in the RV watching the inside game, and next to my 12 year old. I don't blame the kid, as virus gonna virus, but I think this could help explain the super spreader nature of the tailgate.
Friday night I had a little night sweating, not bad. Changed shirts, but didn't need a towel. Saturday (today) I feel about 80% good. No fatigue, no fever, nose is mostly clear, cough is a bit more lower than before but I've been taking hikes in cold air so that might explain some of the cough. Pulse ox consistently above 97. I am considering myself on day 5, which is when things can go sideways, but I feel confident in my recovery. My daughter feels the same way I do, we are hopeful.
I will continue to update, and I hope the details are appreciated. Please don't turn this post into a discussion on vaccination as that is not my intent. I assure you all the various vaccination decisions in my family are well considered and I would prefer not to divulge the details associated with the various decisions. I hope my journey is somewhat typical, and if you are on the front end of a positive test I hope there is much to be gleaned from my post. Be well.

2021.12.04 19:26 chazbodula Update 3 has made the game so much worse?
On PS5 it’s gotten worse since the update: 1. Zoom stops working from time to time 2. Game crashes randomly 3. Weapon attachments reset if you try to equip them by pressing square on the end of game reward screen
I didn’t have these until update 3. What gives?

2021.12.04 19:26 ahyesiamme Having issues with Halo 5
I'm attempting to re-install Halo 5 and play through the campaign again before Infinite comes out, but everytime I try, it says "Installation stopped".
I've tried turning the console offline and only installing the base game and then updating it later.
When it stops, I've tried installing it from the Halo 5 page in the Microsoft Store.
But nothing seems to be working. It's currently stuck at 91% and refuse to install further. Any ideas what the issue might be?

2021.12.04 19:26 idontknowwhyiamhere5 Weird Question Regarding Oxford Interview
This is probably a dumb question but here it goes anyways... Does getting an interview from Oxford has any correlation with my application in other units? For example if I got an interview from Oxford for Econ&Management, does that mean I could be expecting offers for Econ at other lower-ranked unis like UCL, Warwick, etc.?
